Step into a world of ancient beauty and tranquility!
Looking for a unique and awe-inspiring experience? Look no further than the Chiesa Abbazia di San Pietro in Assisi. This ancient church is a true gem, with its spacious and luminous interior, high vaulted ceilings supported by stone columns, and stunning Romanesque facade adorned with three grand rose windows.
Step inside and be transported to another world. The simplicity and austerity of the interior create a sense of peace and serenity. As you explore, don't miss the suspended crucifix above the altar, bathed in ethereal light from the dome above.
But what truly sets this abbey apart is its affiliation with the Benedictine Order. In fact, an edict from the late 11th century dictates that only Franciscan or Clarisse orders can build churches and convents in Assisi. The main entrance is guarded by two majestic lions, and above it, three magnificent rose windows, one for each door.
Don't forget to visit during the Christmas season, when a sacred scene is projected onto the abbey's facade at sunset, transforming it into a true work of art.
Whether you're a history enthusiast, an art lover, or simply seeking a moment of tranquility, the Chiesa Abbazia di San Pietro is a must-visit destination. Come and immerse yourself in the beauty and spirituality of this ancient abbey.
Try the amazing homemade torta al testo!
Hey, have you heard about Trattoria Spadini in Assisi? It's a hidden gem that we stumbled upon and the food is absolutely delicious! The owner and waiter are very kind and helpful, and the dishes are cooked fresh to order. You have to try their homemade torta al testo with Nutella or pistachio, it's to die for! They also have a little corner with their own products like olive oil and strangozzi, which are definitely worth trying. The quality is excellent and the prices are fair. I highly recommend it!
Not only is the food amazing, but the service is top-notch too. The owner and his colleague treat every customer with the same care and courtesy, whether you're a passerby or a regular. The portions are generous and the coffee is surprisingly good. And let me tell you, their desserts are out of this world!
Trattoria Spadini is conveniently located just a few meters from the Basilica of Santa Chiara, making it the perfect spot for a delicious lunch. Keep in mind that they're only open for lunch, not dinner, but they have longer opening hours compared to other restaurants. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Give it a try and you'll see what I mean!
Discover the awe-inspiring beauty of religious and historical significance!
Unfortunately, restoration work was underway during our visit, but it didn't diminish the beauty and, above all, the great religious and historical significance. And the best part? No entrance fee!
PS: I found it incredibly convenient and useful to be able to make a donation using my debit card at the end of the basilica, where you can choose to support the basilica or Caritas!
Don't miss: The Porziuncola, an emblem of Christianity, will leave you in awe and absolute joy.
Highlight: The grand square lined with trees is truly beautiful.
Discover the spiritual beauty of San Damiano
San Damiano is a unique place that will leave you speechless. Nestled in the beautiful valley overlooking Assisi, this church offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere. The steep descent may be challenging for some, but the reward is well worth it.
Once inside, you will be touched by the profound sense of spirituality that permeates every inch of this place. It is said that it was here that Saint Francis first heard the voice of Christ, inspiring him to rebuild the Church. The church also houses the famous Crucifix that spoke to Saint Francis, urging him to repair the crumbling house of God.
Don't miss the opportunity to visit the small dormitory where Saint Clare and her companions stayed, and where Saint Francis composed the Canticle of the Creatures. San Damiano is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a deeper connection with their faith and a moment of tranquility.
