The Castello Caetani is a large medieval fortress located in the historic center of Fondi, near the Caetani Palace. Built between the 14th and 15th centuries by the Caetani family, it stands within the medieval defensive walls. The castle features a central body surrounded by three circular turrets (two of which were destroyed during WWII and later rebuilt) and an imposing circular tower, the mastio. Inside, the Civic Museum displays local prehistoric, Roman, and medieval artifacts. Offering panoramic views of Fondi, the castle is also a great vantage point. Don't miss the stunning frescoes and the archaeological exhibits. A visit to the adjacent noble palace, which hides intriguing details, is highly recommended.
