The Stele della Madonna della Lettera is a 35-meter octagonal column made of reinforced concrete and clad in Trapani stone. At the top of the column stands the Statue of the Madonna, a 7-meter bronze sculpture created by Tore Calabrò. The statue was inaugurated in 1934 by Pope Pius XI, who activated the lights using a device designed by Guglielmo Marconi.
